Apple II File Archives

These sites are archives of Apple II files. They may be in Shrink-It! format for use on real Apple II hardware or in one of the various disk image formats. Some of them are being actively updated. Also check the Emulation page for sites with disk images for use with emulators.

Apple's official support site. Free downloads of IIGS System Software 6.0.1 and HyperCard GS. This was formerly an FTP site, but seems to be HTTP-only now. The FTP site was mirrored at Planet Mirror.

Asimov FTP Site - ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/
This large collection of disk images is probably the best known Apple II archive on the net. The site is mirrored at Planet Mirror and ftp://ftp.cuhk.edu.hk/pub/oldies/apple2/. There is now an HTTP mirror at http://www.apple2.org.za/mirrors/ftp.apple.asimov.net/

(Appears to be down, but mirrored at http://www.apple2.org.za/mirrors/ground.icaen.uiowa.edu/ ) This huge Apple II FTP archive at the University of Iowa resides on a 1.7 GB hard drive purchased by donations from users. Also mirrors several other Apple II archive sites in the /Mirrors/ directory.

Formerly the CalTech Apple II Archives, this second largest archive of Apple II public domain and shareware on-line is administered by Daniel M. Zimmerman. FTP access is available at: ftp://apple2.tffenterprises.com/pub/apple2. A HTTP mirror is at http://www.apple2.org.za/mirrors/apple2.caltech.edu/.

Devin Reade's Apple II archive site is undergoing a major renovation and reorganization. Until the files on the old Trenco site are completely migrated to the new site, they are available via ftp at ftp://ftp.gno.org/pub/apple2-old. This site is also the home to GNO, a Unix-like operating system for the IIgs.

The University of Michigan Apple II archive site. This site is "in hibernation" and hasn't been maintained recently, but contains many files related to the Apple II for download.
